“My entrance into the Aquaculture world was through a Marine Biology BSc. at Aberdeen University, where a course in Aquculture piqued my interest. For me, it is a way to work to support the continued and sustainable use of ocean resources – and to continue to enjoy some of my favourite foods!
I have had the opportunity to work and study in several countries since I started on this pathway (at least seven so far) and that is something I am really grateful for. Diversity is the spice of life, and a career in aquaculture can really provide that.
I am now working with Salmon Scotland, the trade body for the Scottish Salmon industry, as Technical and Standards Manager; having recently returned to the UK after a year in New Zealand working with BioMar (a feed producer). The role requires dynamism and agility as we represent over forty companys in the salmon supply chain, each with their own interests and requirements.
My job involves a small amount of travel, and a hybrid working environment (meaning I can work from both the office and from home) and I enjoy that level of flexibility. It is always a pleasure to go out and meet new people and learn new things.”
