Emma Staniforth

Emma completed a Modern Apprenticeship in trees and timber and went on to work for Forest Enterprise Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway as a recreational craftsperson. She is a Lantra Scotland industry champion and former overall winner of Lantra’s learner of the year awards.

"After 19 months of being a recreation craftsperson a promotional opportunity came up and I was lucky enough to be successful in applying for it.  I became an Apprentice Support Manager, supporting people doing trees and timber Modern Apprenticeships through a two-year programme, making sure their work linked with their SVQ units, helping mentors and staff understand the apprenticeship programme and how best to fit this into the daily work life of forestry.

Forestry and Land Scotland have realised the value of continuing to offer apprenticeships and so have increased their offering to wider work streams. This now includes mechanical engineering, procurement and finance apprenticeships, data science and civil engineering graduate apprenticeships with a larger supporting team.

I am now a Work-Based Learning Manager so not only supporting trees and timber Modern Apprentices, but along with a team, I support all the Modern and Graduate apprentices we offer.
