I had trained to become a professional dancer but a lack of opportunities meant it wasn’t quite working out for me. So when COVID hit I needed to completely rethink my career.
After doing research and speaking to my family, I decided that farming offered steady employment and the chance to progress somewhere as well. Thanks to the Scottish Government and Lantra’s Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund, I’ve been able to do a really useful course which has developed my skills and will allow me to work safely and unsupervised.
Once you are on the courses, you are learning the same skills in the same way as everyone else. I really enjoyed it and have been encouraged to look at further training, like quad bikes or trailer handling, which would be very useful for transporting cattle safely. For the future, I want to continue to improve my skills and become as versatile and as much of an asset to the farm as possible.
