Promoting the land-based and aquaculture sector as a positive and rewarding career choice is a key theme in Lantra’s Scotland workplan. Specifically, we aim to increase awareness and understanding of career opportunities and, in turn, to increase the number and diversity of new entrants.
Exploring and understanding the perceptions of land-based and aquaculture careers among young people is key to informing our work under this theme. To help achieve this, Lantra is working with Active Inquiry to develop and facilitate creative drama workshops in a range of urban, rural and island high schools.
With support from school staff, and terrific engagement from students, workshops at Biggar and Arran High Schools have already highlighted a range of both positive perceptions of, and potential barriers to, working in the sector and Lantra will incorporate that feedback into our careers information and engagement work.
