Trophies for Lantra's ALBAS

With the closing date for nominations to Lantra Scotland’s 2020 Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills (ALBAS) fast approaching, rural employers, colleges and schools are being urged to put forward their top learners before the deadline of Friday 15th November.

An independent panel of judges will then shortlist the finalists, with winners announced at a prestigious ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro on Thursday 5th March 2020, hosted by farmer and stand-up comedian, Jim Smith.

Open to learners in agriculture, animal care, aquaculture, equine, fisheries management, environmental conservation, game and wildlife, horticulture, land-based engineering and trees and timber, the awards are now in their 17th year of celebrating the achievements of Scotland’s top trainees.

The awards provide trainees of all ages with a springboard to succeed in their respective careers, as well as highlighting the need for businesses to invest in new entrants, training and skills development.

Liz Barron-Majerik, Director of Lantra Scotland said: “Although the ALBAS are rightly focused on celebrating and recognising the sector’s learners and trainees, they also provide the perfect way for their training providers and employers to get the credit they deserve. By celebrating the success and hard work of our new entrants and career changers, the awards also help to highlight the support and achievements of everyone involved.

“With the closing date for nominations now fast approaching, we’d like to remind trainers, teachers and employers across the country to put forward their top learners and help us to recognise and promote the industry’s best talent!”
