Lantra is currently reviewing a range of National Occupational Standards (NOS), Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and would like feedback on them from industry and training providers.

By getting involved with developing and reviewing NOS, you can help make sure they best describe the skills, knowledge and understanding needed by your industry.

NOS list the things that are done within specific jobs, which then relates to the content of MAs and other programmes like SVQs. Regular consultations help ensure that they are relevant to our sector, reflecting the latest legislation, technology and working practices.

NOS currently under review:

Agriculture: SVQs and MAs are being looked at with the aim of running a wider industry consultation around October.  New areas include bee conservation, forestry and farm diversification.

Animal Care: a review of the NOS takes place on 3rd October and a wider industry consultation soon afterwards.

Environmental Conservation: This NOS review includes land, waterways and coastal areas. A meeting will be held in our Perth office on 9th October.

Facilities Management: We will be working with industry members from the soft services side of facilities management, meeting at SRUC’s Oatridge campus on 15th October, and having a wider consultation in November.

Farriery and Equine Hoof Care: NOS for both these areas are being reviewed together, with a wider consultation in late October.

General Woodland and Forestry Treework: We are looking at proposed changes to the SVQ at SCQF level 6, which is part of the Trees and Timber MA. This should provide more flexibility and optional units on use and maintenance of forestry machinery.

Horticulture: Reviews of the SVQs and MAs include new areas of bee conservation, forestry and farm diversification.

Veterinary Nursing: With increased demand for trained vet nurses, the industry and RCVS have asked Lantra to look at developing a new SVQ at SCQF Level 6 and an MA. A wider consultation will take place around November.
