Roisin Murphy

Success for our Career Ready intern

We’ve been mentoring Roisin Murphy, a pupil at St John’s RC Academy in Perth, on the Career Ready programme for the past two years, and were delighted to see her graduate along with fellow students at a ceremony in Perth Concert Hall recently.

Career Ready helps transforms the life chances of students from lower income backgrounds by preparing them for the world of work, helping them progress to a sustained, positive post-school destination and be well prepared for a happy and successful future.

Sheena Howden, our project manager, explained more. “Along with the mentoring, Roisin also undertook a month’s long internship supporting the Lantra Scotland team, which included attending the Royal Highland Show.

“She has come on in leaps and bounds since starting the programme and the confidence she has developed encouraged her to put herself forward and be successful in becoming head girl at the school.

“She’s also been given an unconditional offer to study law at university and was recently nominated for Career Ready Student of the Year.

“We wish her well in her goal of becoming a criminal lawyer, and will follow her career closely.

“In the meantime we’ve taken on a new Career Ready student, Courtney, and have started mentoring her.  She attended our annual learner of the year awards to get an idea of what we do, and, like Roisin, will also be doing an internship and attending the Royal Highland Show, so pop in to our stand and say hello!”
