Modern Apprenticeship in Horticulture SCQF Level 6

SCQF Level

Vocational

This is a progression route for those who have completed the SCQF Level 5 Modern Apprenticeship or who have already worked within horticulture and want to build on their knowledge and skills. It develops intermediate skills which are needed for employment or further study, allowing learners to take on more demanding roles within the industry.

There are four options, depending on the type of job that you have:

  • Production Horticulture covers monitoring and controlling growth of plants, providing water and nutrients to crops or plants and co-ordinating the control of pests, diseases and disorders.
  • Landscaping covers co-ordinating planting, management of planted areas and identifying and naming plants using their botanical names.
  • Sports Turf covers implementing plans for the management of sports turf areas, planning and setting out sports turf areas as well as maintaining land drainage and irrigation systems.
  • Parks, Gardens and Green space covers planting, co-ordinating pest control and diseases and disorders as well as managing resources.

You will get a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 and an SQA Scottish Vocational Qualification at SCQF Level 6, possibly also with other short course certificates, including an Emergency First Aid qualification.
